The number 18 in the apparitions of Garabandal


In the apparitions of Nossa Senhora do Carmo de Garabandal, the number that appears more often associated with these events, is the number 18. In Fatima, in 1917, Our Lady decided to always choose the 13th of each month to appear in Fatima, so we have the apparitions on 13 May, 13 June, 13 July, 13 September and the last apparition on 13 October.

In Garabandal, the same occurred, but with the 18th. For example, the first apparition of the Angel S. Miguel was on June 18, 1961, the first message occurred on October 18, 1961, the last message of Garabandal occurred at June 18, 1965, the Miracle of the Host took place on July 18, 1962.

What can we get out of all this? What will God want to talk to us through all this?

It is known that there is a relationship in the Holy Bible and the numbers. God represents the highest order, and everything He accomplishes brings beauty, good, and order. The Bible uses numbers with a symbolic meaning and complete with purely arithmetical meaning. The original languages ​​of Sacred Scripture, Hebrew and Greek, have the particularity that each letter has a value.

In Hebrew the number 8 is "sh'moneh" of the root "shah'meyen", whose meaning is "to fatten, to cover with fat, to superabundate". So, as a numeral, the number 8 is the superabundant number. It is associated with the Resurrection, with the beginning of a new order, a new beginning. The lying down represents eternity and when standing stands the Resurrection. Christ was raised from the dead on the first day of the week, which can also be seen as the eighth day.

Noah is the eighth person preserved by God (II Pet. 2: 5) and he has a family of eight (I Pet. 3:20). They came out of the ark (the flood representing death) and multiplied and filled the new earth. God commanded Abraham to circumcise all male children on his eighth day of life (Gen. 17: 11-14). The meaning of circumcision is "the withdrawal of the body from the flesh" (Col. 2:11). This agrees with "we are the workmanship of God, created in Christ Jesus" (Ephesians 2:10). David was the eighth son of Jesse (1 Samuel 16: 10,11), and he established the new Israel. The leper was cleansed on the eighth day (Lev 14: 10,23) and thus he was considered a new person. The bundle of the first fruits was agitated before the Lord on the eighth day-that is, "the morning after the Sabbath" (Lev 23:11). Fifty days later it was the Feast of Pentecost (v.16), which signifies the coming of the Holy Spirit and the beginning of the new age. The Feast of Tabernacles lasted seven days, and on the eighth day there was a holy convocation (v.36); just as the feast typifies the millennial kingdom, the holy convocation speaks of the new rest after the millennial kingdom. The priests were also consecrated for seven days, and on the eighth day they began their new office (Lev. 9: 1). In the eighth year, the children of Israel sowed the land again (Lev 25:22). Psalm 8 speaks of the kingdom of the Lord (cf. Heb 2: 5-9). The Transfiguration of our Lord Jesus happened on the eighth day (Luke 9:28), an event that foretells His power and His appearing (II Pet. 1: 16-18). The name "Jesus" in Greek is composed of six letters, all bearing several numerical values ​​respectively.

In relation to Garabandal

We know that in Garabandal, Our Lady prophesied about the end of time and that at the end of these times, new times and a new Church in Christ will come, renewed. That is why I believe that this association of number 18 in Garabandal has this true meaning means that after the end of time and purification, a new life will arise for the Church and for the world. This is our hope, the appearance of a Church renewed through the Holy Spirit, more faithful to Christ and in true communion with all of us.
